First Community Bank’s Chris Milum has been honored with the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. In addition to his role as a lender at First Community, Chris is a Captain and the Company Commander of the 224th Support Maintenance Company in Mountain Home.
“When I take a moment to reflect on the number of service men and women that are considered for this award, it's an honor to be one of the few selected, and I’m proud to be included in such an outstanding group,” said Chris Milum, First Community Bank vice president, commercial lending. “I am very humbled to be selected for this award.”
Recipients of the award embody leadership qualities and dedication to duty, honor and country, as demonstrated by General MacArthur, a U.S. five-star general during World War II. The award promotes and sustains effective junior officer leadership in the Army. Twenty-eight company grade active, reserve and National Guard Officers are selected through a boarding process for this honor (14 active duty officers/warrant officers, seven Army National Guard officers/warrant officers and seven Army Reserve officers/warrant officers).
During last year’s speech, the 40th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, Gen. James C. McConville, said, "These men and women are identified as our top leaders. Less than .02% of eligible service members are nominated for this award, making it harder to earn this award than becoming a General Officer."
“To be recognized with the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award is something of which to be truly proud,” said Dale Cole, chairman and chief executive officer of First Community Bank. “Chris exemplifies our core values, and it really shows in his commitment to not only his community, and to his customers, but to his country. We couldn’t be happier for him, and we thank him for his service.”
Milum was recently honored by the Arkansas Bankers Association with the Bill Holmes Leadership Award and selected as the Army National Guard’s Company Grade Officer of the Year by the National Guard Association of Arkansas. He was also selected for the federal version of this award, the Theodore Roosevelt Leadership Award for Company Grade Officers. Additionally, he was recognized by the Emerging Leaders Section of the Arkansas Bankers Association at the 2020 Emerging Leaders Leadership Conference Bankers Association. Milum and his wife, Kaylea, have two children, Olivia and Luke.
