Did you know that October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month? These days most of us have some form of online interaction on a daily basis. Unfortunately, digital predators are constantly looking for opportunities to take advantage through internet-enabled crimes and cyber intrusions.
“Customers have to be on high alert continuously. Online security isn’t just about suspicious emails,” said Amber Bass, vice president of business and electronic solutions, First Community Bank. “Criminals are relentless in their quest to find personal information using messages on social media, posts shared with personal information, fraudulent text messages, and phishing calls.”
To help protect you from cyber-attacks, we’ve compiled some tips from the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies website.
If an unsolicited text message or email asks you to update, check, or verify your account information, do not follow the link provided in the message itself or call the phone numbers provided in the message. Go to the company’s website to log into your account or call the phone number listed on the official website to see if something does in fact need your attention.
