First Community Bank employees recently formed a committee to participate in White River Health System Foundation’s Paint the Town Pink fundraising efforts for breast cancer awareness month, which is a cause that is nationally recognized every October, with a goal to raise funds for mammography and build awareness around breast cancer screening and detection.

The First Community Bank Paint the Town Pink committee consists of the following employees: Pat Rutherford, Laura Caraway, Janie Starnes, Angela Connell, Andrew Lane, Rachael Fisher and Kaisha Gott.

“I’m thrilled that First Community Bank participated in Paint the Town Pink,” said Angela Connell. “I have several people in my life that have been affected by this terrible disease, so in a year like 2020, when there are so many challenges, I’m glad that there is a month to remind everyone that every woman is at risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer. We should all take the appropriate steps to ensure that we are doing everything that we can to advocate for awareness.”

During October the First Community Bank Paint the Town Pink Committee held several events to raise funds for the cause. Including the following:
Blue jean Fridays
Pink ribbon sales
Soup/chili potluck lunch
Cupcake for the Cure bake sale
Pink pumpkin decorating contest

“At First Community Bank, we encourage our team members to support nonprofit organizations and causes that they are passionate about,” said Boris Dover, president and COO at First Community Bank.  “Our employees have done an outstanding job raising funds this year for the Paint the Town Pink efforts. The employees raised $3,200 and the bank donated an additional $5,100, netting an $8,300 donation for the cause. We’re proud to support the good work of the White River Health System Foundation to benefit women’s health in the communities where we live and work.”

Studies conducted by the Susan G. Komen organization indicate that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
